Cobden is known as the 'Dairy Capital' of the world, and bases its claim on the fact that over 140,000 cows in the local area are being milked. This would explain why Cobden is the base of one of the world's largest milk drying plants in the world too, built by Bonlac in 1999 for around $40m and now placarded as New Zealand based Fonterra. It is also home to a major stock feed pellet facility (CopRice) that provides local farmers with the ability to gain the best production from their dairying. So the town has the whole production and support cycle well taken care of.

History goes back to it settlement in the 1840's and rail arrived in 1892, but has long been de-commissioned as a popular walking trail. Timber cutting has definitely given way to dairying in this town.

The town has a formidable day/night airstrip, and plenty of entertainment for children with the lcoal miniature railway and go-kart venues. As for fishing - well you have a treat here with the Curdies River nearby as well as the many lakes in the district.
